At Soderquist's we are proud to have been a part of this community since 1926. Back then, when Central Avenue (Hwy. 65) was graded and graveled, a young man named Iver Soderquist opened the Soderville General Store. It was located on the east side of Central Avenue. Customers came to purchase everything from chicken feed to denim overalls to farm machinery. If a customer wanted something that wasn't in stock, it was written on a "want list" that hung from a string. It would be purchased on the weekly trip to town and stocked for the customer. This tradition of exceptional customer service continues today.
Iver Soderquist was one of four Soderquist brothers to settle here with their family from Sweden. About a year after the General Store opened, a cyclone (the term used for a tornado) took the roof off and Iver didn't have the capital to rebuild. He offered a partnership to his brother Albert in exchange for the use of his Model T and $200 cash. Years passed and Iver eventually sold his share of the company to Albert in order to operate other businesses in the area.
In later years Albert's son, Donald, joined his father in business and together they built a new, modern "Supermarket" on the west side of Highway 65. This store was opened in 1959 when the highway expanded to four lanes and the Soderville General Store was in the way. Donald, with his wife Lorraine, completed their buy-out of Albert in 1967 and continued to serve the community, growing and changing, with the same valuable employees while adding many new faces.
Our present location was opened in November of 1979. Don and Lorraine retired in 1985 and sold the company to their son and daughter, Mark and Cheryl. Since that time, we have added on and updated our look many times. But throughout the years our company's philosophy has remained the same. To offer high quality products and be the very best in customer service. Soderquist's MARKET is now known throughout the area for our excellent perishable departments as well as friendly, courteous, knowledgeable employees.
